Job Purpose:
The Plant Operator Assessor is responsible for evaluating, training, and verifying the competence of heavy plant operators of excavators, dumpers/dump trucks, rollers, tele handlers etc, to ensure they meet company and industry standards. The role involves conducting assessments, maintaining records, and supporting continuous improvement in safety, quality, and operational performance
Main Responsibilities:
- Conduct practical and theoretical assessments of operators in line with competency frameworks and company procedures.
- Deliver on-the-job training and coaching to improve operator skills and performance.
- Maintain accurate assessment records and competency documentation.
- Ensure compliance with safety, environmental, and operational standards.
- Provide feedback and recommendations for operator development and retraining where necessary.
- Liaise with operations/site management to schedule assessments/training and monitor operator performance post‑assessment.
- Support audits and contribute to the continuous improvement of training and assessment processes.
Skills and attributes:
- Strong organisational skills
- Ability to work in a fast-paced and changing environment (site visits, various machines, different locations)
- Good communication skills
- Proven experience as an operator or assessor in a relevant industry
- Knowledge of relevant health, safety, and operational procedures.
Requirements and qualifications:
- Right to work in the UK
- Full Driving Licence
- Hold plant cards (CPCS/NPORS) and be operationally competent in plant machinery (excavator, dumper, roller)
- Industry experience in plant operations
- Assessor qualification or willing to work towards one.
Working Conditions:
- Site‑based role: travel to operational sites/locations for observations and training required; may involve irregular hours depending on site operations.
- Mobile working and outdoor environment; exposure to construction/earth‑moving operations environment – safety PPE required.
