
HGV Driver – Class 1 (Weston Super Mare)
Introduction:
We are looking for a skilled and reliable Class 1 HGV Driver to join our team to transport heavy plant equipment across the country. This position requires overnight stays, so flexibility and a commitment to travel are essential. You will be responsible for transporting, delivering, and positioning heavy machinery and equipment to various sites, ensuring safety and compliance at all times. |
Main Responsibilities:
- Safely operate a Class 1 HGV to transport heavy plant machinery, construction equipment, and other large loads to various destinations.
- Ensure all deliveries are made on time and within safety regulations.
- Perform daily vehicle checks and ensure the vehicle is in good working condition, reporting any defects to the Transport Manager / Logistics Manager immediately to ensure constant compliance with regulations and company standards
- Safe loading, securing and transport of plant equipment and attachments
- Carry out delivery and collection checks on each load ensuring all aspects of the load are captured using tablet-based reporting system
- Follow all road safety regulations, weight restrictions, and legal requirements
- Ensure compliance with all relevant health and safety procedures during transport and unloading.
- Maintain accurate delivery records, including timesheets, logs, and delivery confirmations.
- Ensure the vehicle and load are adequately secured for safe transit.
- Stay away overnight as required for long-distance hauls, adhering to company policies regarding accommodation and expenses.
- Communicate effectively with the transport manager, clients, and site personnel regarding any issues with routes or deliveries.
Key Skills:
- A valid Class 1 HGV license with a clean driving record.
- CPC qualification and Tachograph card.
- Understanding of driver hours and tachograph regulations
- Previous experience in transporting heavy plant equipment is highly desirable.
- Prior experience in a similar role and NPORS OR CPCS Loader Securer / Plant Mover qualifications advantageous
- A professional, reliable, and safety-conscious approach to work.
- Prior FORS training experience advantageous but not essential.
- Excellent communication skills for interaction with clients and team members.
- Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
